Are you starting it as a background process with the ampersand (or ctrl-z followed by bg)? If so, it should stay running even after you disconnect. If it doesn't, then nohup or screen as previously mentioned are good alternatives.

Hey Everyone,
   I have a quick question regarding starting processes remotely (through an SSH session for instance). Once the SSH session closes, the process that was started closes as well. How can I get that process to stay running even after I disconnect the SSH session?
