[BALU] Re: Fedora 6 Compile versus YUM

I got a new hard drive and installed Fedora 7 on it. Then I updated it, which was pleasantly fast. Then I connected the digital camcorder to the computer and fired up dvgrab. The response was "No camera exists." After I determined that no devices were created, I went to the Web and ended up at FedoraForum.org and found out what is going on.

As everyone knows, Fedora 7 was to have a re-write of the IEEE-1394 stack. It must not have worked because, as the forum pointed out, the kernel has the IEEE-1394 turned off.

I did a grep 1394 /boot/config-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 and received:

#IEEE 1394 (Firewire) support
#CONFIG_IEEE1394 is not set

So, it looks like I have a while to research the answers to my own questions.
Thanks for your time!
