I don't like any of the programs that setup asterisk for you. It is pretty
easy with out them. On Ubuntu

sudo apt-get install asterisk
setup you /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf
and /etc/asterisk/sip.conf

log in to asterisk
asterisk -r

and type help to see what is going on. Focus on the sip sections. You can
get example's for the two files above from www.voip-info.org keeping you
from even having to buy a book.

The problem with the programs you mentioned is that they give you checkboxes
but you will setup a nice system and try to do something they don't have a
checkbox for and you can't figure out how to make changes without messing up
their preconfiguration. That is at least what I found out.

This gives you Asterisk 1.2, getting up to the latest 1.4 is a whole other
story which I am working on today.
